NAHS Class of 2026 Announcements

2023-2024 Metro Atlanta Regional Commission Program

The 2023-2024 Metro Atlanta Regional Commission (MARC) Program application is now open to rising 10th and 11th grade students who reside or attend school in the 11-county Atlanta region and are interested in learning how they can act to make metro Atlanta an even better place to call home.

 

The program is free to attend. Applications are due by May 19, 2023, and space is limited.

Become a BridgeUP STEM Scholar

Are you interested in computer science but not sure what it’s all about?

Develop computing skills, build confidence, and learn about college and career opportunities in computing through a year-long program at Georgia Tech. Open to high school students currently in grades 9 through 11 who identify as girls or non-binary.

NEW! Pre-AP Chemistry Course Opportunity for 2023-24

North Atlanta High school will be piloting Pre-AP chemistry next year.  Information about this new class has been posted in your science teacher's Google classroom. Please review the FAQ and video posted by your science teacher to determine if this is an academic opportunity that may be a good fit for you and something you would like to pursue. 

If you have questions about the class, you can also contact Ms. Yisrael in 9141 (YYisrael@apsk12.org).  The Pre-AP Chemistry sign-up form will close on March 22, 2023.  We will be selecting 60 students for the pilot course and the lottery will take place on March 23, 2023.  Selected students will be notified beginning March 27, 2023.

Rising 10th Grade Year Course Placement & Selection Process Information for 2023-24

Counselor Points of Contact for 10th Grade Year Schedules:

CORE ACADEMIC CLASSES (English, Math, Science, Soc St, World Lang):

  • Course placement for English, Math, Science and SocSt classes will be determined based on students' Fall Semester Grades and MAP test scores.

  • Students will be registered into the highest level courses they qualify for based on Rising 10th Grade Placement Guidelines. (Click here to view 10th Grade Year Academic Offerings & Placement Guidelines)

  • If a student is NOT PLACED in an Honors or AP level class, then his/her grades and/or tests scores did not meet the requirements for the class and they ARE NOT ELIGIBILE for those classes.

  • If a student IS PLACED in an Honors or AP level class and want to go down a level, he/she may submit a change request during the Add/Drop period in March

  • We strongly encourage all students to pursue the most rigorous courses they can AND be successful 

  • All students have been scheduled for the next level of their current world language 

    • Students who are not currently taking a world language will choose one to start next year​

    • As students NAHS IB Middle Years program, all 10th graders will be required to take a world language, even if they have already earned the 2.0 credits that are required to meet APS graduation requirements.

 

PATHWAY & ELECTIVE CLASSES:

  • All rising 10th graders have been automatically placed in 1 semester of Rec Games and 1 semester of SAT Test Prep

  • Students may choose to take Speech in place of SAT Test Prep 

  • Students who passed fall semester of their current pathway class(es) have the option to either:

    • continue to the 2nd year class in 10th grade

    • select a new pathway to start in 10th grade

  • Students who DID NOT PASS fall semester of their current pathway class(es) CANNOT CONTINUE IN THAT PATHWAY and will need to select a new pathway program to start in 10th grade

  • Students will be asked to select and rank 3 back up pathway classes in case their top choice is unavailable or has an unresolvable conflict.

STUDENT COURSE PLACEMENT REVIEW & SELECTION

  • Counselors will visit all 9th grade English classes January 30-Feb 3 to review their academic course placements and to make their Pathway/Elective selections.

  • Students will receive a hard copy of the academic courses they have been registered for and their Pathway/Elective choices.

 

 

 

CLASS OF 2026 RISING 10TH GRADE PARENT SCHEDULING INFO SESSIONS

  • Parents interested in learning more about their rising 10th grade student’s academic course placement and elective selections for next school year, are invited to attend one of our upcoming parent info sessions.

  • This will be parents’ opportunity to ask questions pertinent to your student’s 10th grade class schedule, academic plan, & the 2023-24 registration process/timeline. 

  • Sessions will be hosted by NAHS counselors Ms Marino & Ms Williams and will be held in person and via zoom.

  • Counselors will not be able to accommodate requests for individual parent meetings.

Mock PSAT Opportunity at NAHS:  Saturday, Dec 10

 

Test drive the PSAT before you take the official test sophomore year. Applerouth's full-length practice exams provides a testing experience under test like conditions. Afterwards, you will receive a comprehensive score report that identifies strengths and targets areas for improvement, so you'll know exactly where to focus your prep before your official test day.

 

In partnership with Applerouth Tutoring, North Atlanta will be offering a Mock PSAT on Saturday, December 10th from 9am-1pm on the North Atlanta HS campus.

 

This is a great practice opportunity for current 9th graders interested in qualifying for the IB Diploma or IB Career-Related Programs.

  • Preparing for 10th Grade classes & future program opportunities

IB Program Interest Meeting:  Wednesday Oct 19

Attention 9th and 10th Grade Students/Parents:

  • Are you already interested in pursuing either the IB Diploma or Career Related Program in 11th and 12th grade?

  • Are you wanting to learn more to see if the IB program options at NAHS to see if one would be a good fit for you?

  • Are you new to North Atlanta and interested in learning what the IB program is all about?

 

If you answered yes to any of these questions or are simply curious and looking to learn more about IB, please attend the upcoming IB Program Interest Meeting on Wednesday, October 19th at 6:00.  Our IB Program Coordinator, Ms Costarides will be providing a presentation on Zoom that will be very informative for both students and parents alike. The meeting will take place via Zoom and will be translated to Spanish and recorded.

NAHS Worldly Warrior Global Travel Program

The NAHS Worldly Warrior Global Travel program is thrilled to announce the 2024 tours! Travel with us to Panama, Iceland, England, and Thailand!! Informational meetings will be held September 19-22, 2022 via Zoom at 6:30 each evening.  During the meetings, we’ll review all the details about travel, including the itinerary, dates, and fundraising/cost of the trip. We’ll also be opening enrollment at the meetings, so you'll have the chance to be one of the first travelers to sign up. Space is limited.

9th Grade Required Summer Reading Assignment

ALL NAHS FRESHMEN have required summer reading assignments that are due at the start of the school year.

The assignments are part of the 9th Grade Literature Class curriculum and will be the first graded work students will have in their 9th grade year. 

 

Having these required assignments completed and ready to turn in at the beginning of the new school year is key to a strong start to high school and successful freshman year.
